The Resonance Lumber Grader Android App is a simple resonance-based wood classification tool designed to estimate the dynamic modulus of elasticity of lumber. The method is based on the relationship between wood density and the square of the stress wave velocity, measured through longitudinal vibration.

The system uses a 100 g hammer and an Android phone or tablet running the dedicated software. After the user enters the wood length and selects the species, the application uses the corresponding nominal density to calculate the result. The density value can also be manually adjusted by the user when required.

By striking the end of the timber, the application calculates the stress wave velocity and displays an indicative classification according to Eurocode 338. Due to the uncertainty associated with wood density, the classification must be considered as informative only.
