Particulate Matter & Ultrafine Particle Monitors

About Particulate Matter & Ultrafine Particle Monitors

ES Canada offers particulate matter, dust and ultrafine particle monitoring instruments for ambient air studies, environmental research and field investigations. The range includes Oizom Dustroid, the 2B Technologies Black Carbon Photometer, Pegasor AIRAM and PPC, and portable AA-3500 and EPAM-5000 instruments.

Particle instruments do not all report the same quantity. Mass concentration, particle number, surface-area-related parameters and black carbon measurements describe different aerosol characteristics.

Particle monitoring equipment available

  • Ambient dust: Oizom Dustroid for supported outdoor particulate measurements.
  • Ultrafine particles: Pegasor AIRAM and PPC for model-specific aerosol and ultrafine particle parameters.
  • Black carbon: the 2B Technologies Black Carbon Photometer for optical black-carbon-related measurements.
  • Portable particulate monitoring: AA-3500 and EPAM-5000 for their specified airborne particle and dust applications.

Which particle parameter should you measure?

PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 identify particle size fractions commonly reported as mass concentration. Particle number concentration counts particles within an instrument's detectable range, while LDSA concerns estimated lung-deposited particle surface area. Black carbon characterizes a specific light-absorbing aerosol component. Select the parameter required by the study rather than treating these results as interchangeable.

Typical applications

  • Ambient dust monitoring
  • Atmospheric aerosol research
  • Industrial particulate investigations
  • Portable particle measurements and ultrafine particle characterization

How to select the right equipment

Compare the required quantity, detectable particle range, sampling method and operating environment. Review response time, calibration, data outputs and installation or portability needs. Confirm supported parameters for the exact model; the presence of an instrument in this category does not imply that it measures every aerosol characteristic.

ES Canada assists with selecting particulate and ultrafine particle instruments for the intended measurement.
