About Personal Exposure Monitors
ES Canada offers personal exposure monitors and handheld air monitoring instruments for workplace measurement and occupational hygiene investigations. The range includes dedicated equipment for mercury, aerosols, silica and diesel particulate matter, together with a handheld multi-parameter monitor for firefighters.
These instruments do not all measure the same contaminant or use the same sampling approach. A personal aerosol monitor, a mercury monitor and a silica-specific instrument serve different measurement objectives. Select equipment according to the exposure being assessed and the capabilities of the individual model.
Workplace exposure monitoring instruments
- Mercury: HERMES is a personal mercury monitor.
- Aerosols: HD-7204 is a personal aerosol monitor.
- Silica: SM-7204 is a personal silica monitor.
- Diesel particulate matter: DPM-7204 is a dedicated personal diesel particulate monitor.
- Firefighter applications: HD-1620 is a handheld multi-parameter monitor. Verify its supported measurements against the intended task.
Personal exposure measurement or area monitoring?
Define whether the objective is to assess conditions associated with an individual worker, investigate a specific task or take measurements at selected locations. Confirm how the instrument is carried, positioned and sampled during the assessment. A handheld reading at one location should not automatically be treated as equivalent to a personal exposure measurement collected over a working period.
Typical applications
- Workplace mercury monitoring
- Personal aerosol and silica measurement
- Diesel particulate exposure investigations
- Handheld multi-parameter measurements for firefighter applications
- Occupational hygiene studies focused on a defined airborne contaminant
How to choose a personal exposure monitor
Identify the target contaminant, expected concentration and required measurement period. Compare sampling method, measurement range, response time, portability, data recording and calibration requirements using the model specifications. Confirm that the equipment and sampling procedure match the intended assessment method; a product category alone does not establish suitability for a particular exposure study.
ES Canada helps technical users select personal exposure monitoring equipment according to the contaminant, measurement conditions and workplace application.
