About Flow Meters

ES Canada offers a range of ultrasonic flow meters and flow measurement instruments for water, wastewater, HVAC, industrial processes and environmental monitoring applications. Our portfolio includes portable and fixed flow meters from Micronics and Mainstream Measurements, with solutions for full pipes, open channels and partially filled pipes.

Whether you need temporary flow measurements, continuous monitoring or thermal energy measurement, ES Canada helps Canadian professionals identify the appropriate technology for their installation and operating conditions.

Types of flow meters available

  • Portable clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters: Measure liquid flow from outside compatible pipes without cutting into the pipeline. Suitable for temporary measurements, system checks and energy audits.
  • Fixed ultrasonic flow meters: Provide continuous flow measurement in closed pipes for water distribution, building services and industrial monitoring.
  • Open-channel and area-velocity flow meters: Measure flow in open channels, sewers and partially filled pipes. Portable and fixed solutions are available for wastewater monitoring and field surveys.
  • Ultrasonic thermal energy meters: Combine flow and temperature measurements to monitor heating and chilled-water systems.
  • Flow velocity probes and transmitters: Support flow measurement installations requiring velocity sensing, signal outputs or data acquisition.

Ultrasonic flow measurement technologies

Micronics specializes in non-intrusive ultrasonic measurement, including portable and permanently installed clamp-on flow meters. Selected instruments use transit-time technology for liquids without significant suspended particles and can measure flow without direct contact with the fluid.

Mainstream Measurements provides ultrasonic area-velocity systems for open channels, wastewater networks, rivers and partially filled pipes. Its range includes portable data-logging instruments, fixed flow meters and ultrasonic velocity probes for environmental and industrial applications.

How to choose the right flow meter

Selecting a flow meter depends on the type of liquid, pipe dimensions, installation configuration and measurement requirements. Important considerations include:

  • Full-pipe measurement versus open-channel or partially filled pipe applications
  • Liquid characteristics, including the presence of suspended particles
  • Portable measurements versus permanent monitoring
  • Required flow measurement range and operating conditions
  • Data logging, signal outputs and communication interfaces, such as 4–20 mA or RS485 Modbus on selected models
